Dear Friends,
We have the pleasure of informing you that the 11th Annual Conference will take place from the 13th to the 19th of March, 2010.
The GIMUN Annual Conference simulates the workings of different United Nations bodies wherein students participate as Secretariat officials, Chairpersons, Delegates and Journalists. The Annual Conference is a bi-lingual conference in English and French and provides a realistic simulation in which students represent member states and organisations of the United Nations and discuss issues of pressing importance, while upholding their delegation’s policy. This is an enjoyable academic exercise that encourages students to both find collective solutions to global problems as well as to view problems from multiple perspectives while fostering inter-cultural understanding.
Beyond its direct value to raising awareness about international issues and multilateral diplomacy, and in particular, the United Nations, our Annual Conference provides students with the opportunity to develop and cultivate their extra-curricular skills: research and coherent formulation of ideas, conflict resolution, public speaking, negotiation and diplomatic tact.
The Annual Conference espouses a theme each year and the 11th Annual Conference in 2010 will be simulating six committees in which the various topics on the agenda will shed further light into the multifaceted theme of Comprehensive Human Security. Comprehensive Human Security enlarges the traditional concept of military security by laying prime importance on the individual. Comprehensive Human Security does not limit conventional security but rather envelops such categories as personal, environmental security, health security, food security, economic and financial security, community, and political security; seeking to expand our limited perspective of rather interwoven issues.
The 11th Annual Conference will be simulating the following committees:
Registration for delegates and journalists is divided into waves. Two waves of recruitment have been held already. As there a still several open positions to be filled, we have opened a third and final wave of recruitment which is officially open now.
Our optimally sized conference is reputed for a high calibre of participants; cultural, social and geographical diversity as well as for a warm, friendly character that allows for an effective exchange of opinions, and ultimately, is a strong factor contributing to the creation of long lasting friendships. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon at the Geneva International Model United Nations.
Best regards,
Faraz Merchant & Vikram Singh
