An introduction into the European Model United Nations Network (EMUNNET) and a short overview of its achievements during the past six months is now available in a report by Kaspar Paur, the president of this network (see attachment below).
After only six months, EMUNNET has shown in an impressive way its potential on the one hand and its limits on the other. Since the GIMUN is holding the presidency over EMUNNET, we were at the source of all the activities of EMUNNET so far.
The project EMUNNET certainly has a great potential. It is the first initiative of this kind in the sense that it emerged as a joint initiative of six MUNs from different countries. If EMUNNET succeeds in becoming the central network of discussion and cooperation between MUNs, as well as the main source of information for interested students, this network would have a very remarkable positive impact on the MUN world.
With the new website and Facebook group, EMUNNET has acquired two powerful tools to promote MUNs, inter-MUN cooperation and to inform students from all over the world.
The limits of EMUNNET can be summed up in two words: Slow pace. The sheer diversity of the member MUNs and the logistical challenges to communicate require a lot of discussions, reevaluations of decisions and sometimes frustrating outcomes.
Judging from the history of EMUNNET and the progress made, the potential clearly overweighs the limits, leaving the network facing a promising future.
