Economic crisis and Unemployment: let the youth find the answers!

I was born and raised in Geneva, something not very common in Geneva. I have a bachelor in political science, and another in Law from the University of Geneva. I was conference manager of the 2009 GIMUN annual conference. I also received a master in public policy in 2010 from the University College of London, where I also participated in political campaigns. I also did two internships in politics in the USA. I am currently finishing my master in public law, while working as parliamentary assistant in the Geneva parliament.

Sandrine Chabey

Hello!
My name is Sandrine and I am a student in International Relations at Geneva university. Originally from another part of Switzerland, I moved to Geneva a year ago to pursue my studies. I have long been interested in international relations and started getting involved with model UN in high school where I both chaired and took part as delegates. After graduating, I spent a year in the USA as an Au Pair and had the chance to take a class in IR at Harvard Extension School which definitely convinced me that it was what I wanted to study. I first entered the GIMUN family by taking part of its Annual Conference last year as a Liaison officer for UNDP. I then took part of Youth Perspective and joined the GA.
After chairing at isramun last summer, I am glad to come back to GIMUN and am looking forward to moderating this panel at Youth Perspective and to four days of debating, learning and broadening our horizons.

  • Topic description :

MDG 1B aims at "Achiev(ing) full and productive employment and decent work for all, including women and young people". However, since the economic crisis of 2008, unemployment numbers have been rising, especially for young people. We believe that the solution though lies exactly in the hands of the young generation, in our hands: we just need to be given the means to do it,; that is exactly what we will discuss in our committee during the next Youth Perspective conference. How to give the youth the tools and means to innovate and get closer to achieving the MDG 1B despite the economic crisis? What are the ways in which we could create the momentum needed to keep on going forward? Those are the challenge that we wish to meet and we are sure that through your perspective we can do it.
