This is GIMUN for me…

Two hundreds representatives during the day
Two hundreds mates during the night

One topic to discuss in the committee
Thousands of dreams to talk about in the GIMUN-family

Many points of order in the Palais des Nations
Many declarations of love on the lake shore

Seven days to build real friendships
A whole life to let these friendships grow

- Written by a GIMUN-participant

The Geneva International Model of United Nations (GIMUN) organizes an annual conference during which different United Nations committees are simulated. Participants coming from every corner of the world experience one week of strenous and tiring, but exceptionnally interesting negotiations and debates. The following concept explains how the simulation functions and describes the different roles that participants can play at the GIMUN conference.

In every committee a given number of delegates represent different States, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) or international organizations. Delegates of one particular state in the different committees form a delegation led by an ambassador. Each of the six committees simulated is organized and headed by two chairpersons who are assisted by a secretary. The Secretary-Generals are in charge of the overall supervision of the conference, they assist the chairpersons and may intervene into the acting of certain committees during the conference. In every committee interpreters assure simultaneous or consecutive interpretation and make the GIMUN a truly bilingual experience. In addition, journalists report on every aspect of GIMUN throughout the week by editing the "GIMUNews" – topics such as the state of the negotiations and social events (i.e. the last night's party) are a major source of information for the participants.

You can take part to GIMUN 2008 by applying as delegate, ambassador, or journalist.

This year the GIMUN features the six following committees: the Security Council (SC), the Human Rights Council (HRC), the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
