Saturday :
Registration and welcome at the HEI Graduate Institute. Official Opening Ceremony followed by an introductory workshop to provide participants the rules of procedure they would be using during the week. At night all the participants enjoyed a typical Swiss welcome dinner and got to know each other.
Sunday :
In the morning there was a city tour with the committee. The participants got to know each other better and had some unofficial talks about the conference and their country’s interests while discovering the beautiful city of Geneva. In the early afternoon there was a lunch at the HEI Graduate Institute followed by a working session with the ambassadors and their delegates, while the editor in chief briefed the journalists. At night there was an informal meeting at a Bar in order to relax, have a drink and network.
Monday :
The day started with the registration of all the participants at the Palais des Nations at 8 o’ clock which required a badge, since the UN building is so highly secured. After a coffee break the first official Workshop session began. Between 12 and 14 o’ clock there was a lunch break. Afterwards, the ambassador’s met their delegates to discuss important issues for the negotiations, while the delegates that did not have an ambassador had some time to negotiate informally. At 14 o’ clock there was the official Opening Ceremony where we had among others the honour to be welcomed by the UN under secretary General. This event was followed by another coffee break and by another two hours of working sessions, until 18 o’ clock. At night there was a workshop dinner, so each committee met to have a meal to get to know each other.
Tuesday :
During the rest of the week the time schedules where more or less similar: from 8.15 to 9.45 there was the first working session followed by a 15 minute coffee break where the participants received the GIMUN-Newspaper. The second workshop session was between 10 and 11.30. From 11.30 to 12.30 the participants had lunch, and from 12.30 to 13.00 the ambassadors had opportunity to coordinate among their delegates, meanwhile the delegates without an ambassador used the time for informal negotiation. At 13.00 the workshop sessions continued until the second coffee break, which occurred between 15.00 and 15.15. A forth and last workshop session took place between 15.15 and 17.45 where the delegates are finally released (with smoking heads). The time schedule remained the same during the rest of the week. The only exception was the visit of a specialist, a professional who is called into by a committee to give a presentation on his or her area of expertise. The specialist provided the participants with a more in-depth view of his or her topic area. The other differences were the social events at night: Tuesday we went to the Opera of Geneva.
Wednesday :
Regular schedule. At 18.30 there was an official reception by the Etat de Genève followed by a drink. From 20 o’ clock on there was a Clubbing evening in a Bar in downtown Geneva.
Thursday :
Regular schedule. This was the only night without any social events, allowing the participants to finally get some sleep. Anyhow the offer of unofficial parties was pretty high, so party-hungry delegates didn’t had to suffer that night.
Friday :
Regular schedule except after the coffee break. This was the last day of the conference and the moment where every council was adopting its last resolutions. At 16 o’ clock the official closing ceremony took place, which meant the end of the serious part of the conference. Anyhow GIMUN couldn’t end without a big farewell party: from 19.30 a big GALA-dinner followed by a big party took place.
