Youth Perspectives - 2011 Conference

From April 28th to May 1st 2011, GIMUN organized, for the first time in the history of our NGO, a second several-day-long conference. In honour of the Presidency of the General Assembly of the United Nations by H. E. Mr. Joseph Deiss, and within the framework of the International Year of Youth, give students and other young adults from various backgrounds not only a voice but the unique opportunity to actively contribute to the decision-making process of a topic that concerns young people all over the world.

Students, former students, future students, whether engaged actively in the area of education or not, whether you have or have not been part of the student protests last year: Education is a topic that concerns us all. The role of education in society and the way in which education systems around the world develop are crucial and our generation should have a say in this.

This is exactly why GIMUN, as a completely student run NGO in special consultative status with the UN EcoSoc, gave students and other young adults from various backgrounds not only a voice but the unique opportunity to actively contribute to the decision-making process on this topic.

Participants of the Youth Perspectives (YP) Conference discussed during 3 days various aspects of Education in the 21st Century. The final outcome of this event - adopted by the YP General Assembly - will feed into the workings of the 2011 UN-EcoSoc Ministerial Review which this year focuses on "Implementing the internationally agreed goals and commitments in regard to education".

Find the Statements as adopted by the Youth Perspectives General Assembly here:

  1. Education - The Path to Citizenship
  2. Integration through Education
  3. Teachers and the Promotion of Gender Equality
  4. Universal Access to HIgher Education

Last but not least: read the final statement that GIMUN submitted to the United Nations EcoSoc.

A big thank you to the Youth Perspectives 2011 Organizing Team:
