HEAD OF TRANSLATION

  • Department Name: Delegation

  • Time Commitment: 4/hours on average. Delegation meetings expected weekly.

  • Important Note: As a student association, all roles within GIMUN are unpaid volunteer positions.

Role Description

  • As the Head of Translation of GIMUN’S Translation Department, you are expected to represent and lead the department. Moreover you are expected to coordinate translation tasks, establish the necessary translation rules of procedure, and proofread to ensure accurate translation delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the Translation Department in meetings with the Board or other GIMUN committees.

  • Establish and maintain clear translation rules of procedure and quality standards for all documents.

  • Coordinate and manage the distribution of translation tasks among department members.

  • Proofread and edit final translations to guarantee accuracy and consistency.

  • Serve as a point of reference for the recruitment and onboarding of new translation team members for each recruitment cycle.

Candidate Profile & Outcomes

  • Proficiency in both English and French (a must), Spanish (highly desirable). 

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage small teams.

  • Efficient team-work and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail (especially important for proofreading). 

  • Motivation to contribute to GIMUN's mission and uphold linguistic standards.

  • A real interest in translation.

  • Prior experience in translation or linguistic studies is an asset, but not mandatory.
