Frequently Asked Questions

  • I don't speak French, can I still participate in GIMUN events?
It is possible to participate in GIMUN events if you don’t speak French. We try our best to make all of our events fully bilingual. That being said, certain events may have sessions that aren't interpreted or translated. We will, however, let you know beforehand.
  • I would like to get involved with GIMUN. Where do I start?
There are several ways to get involved in GIMUN. You can be a participant at one of our events, such as UN Day, International Geneva, our Study Trip or Greycells, as well as our Annual Conference. You can also join our MUN Delegation at the beginning of each semester. Keep an eye on our social media and website so you know when the next event will take place. There are also different departments within the organisation. If you are interested, send us an email: info@gimun.org to get involved!
  • I do not live in Geneva, is it still possible for me to get involved in GIMUN?
Yes it is! There are certain positions that require you to live in Geneva, however, a large part of our programme is also accessible to people living abroad. It is generally specified on our website whether or not it is possible to apply for a position as a person living outside of Geneva.
  • How can I become a member of GIMUN?
You can apply to become part of our General Assembly if you have already participated in one of our events or have contributed to the work of the association. We also recruit people during the school year for various positions within the association, such as Under-Secretary-Generals for the Annual Conference, Head Delegates for our MUN Delegation or photographers for our events, just to name a few. You can find a full list of available positions on our website and social media platforms.
  • What is the MUN Delegation?
The MUN Delegation is a training session organised by GIMUN to prepare university students to participate in a Model United Nations conference. The MUN Delegation is open to all students enrolled in a university in Geneva. Candidates must have an intermediate level of English, as training will be held in English. The MUN Delegation consists of two elements: the delegate training and participation at a MUN conference. The delegate training is held at the University of Geneva on Monday evenings from 6.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. Following five or six meetings, a few delegates will be selected to take in a MUN conference. The selection is based on the delegates participation during the training sessions. In the past, the MUN Delegation went to BIMUN in Bonn, Germany and to OxiMUN in Oxford, United Kingdom.
  • How can I participate in the MUN Delegation?
The MUN Delegation opens its applications in the beginning of every semester. Before that, we normally organise an info session, where you can ask us more questions. All information is also available on our website and our social media. If you have any questions, contact: info@gimun.org, elina.lampi@gimun.org and aureliekotamamah@gimun.org
  • Can I participate at the Annual Conference?
To participate at our Annual Conference, you have to be at least 18 years old by the time of the conference. You also have to be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate program at a university. It is also necessary that you have a valid passport or ID of a member state of the UN in order to be able to enter the UN buildings.
  • Does GIMUN provide financial aid during the Annual Conference? If yes, how can I apply?"
GIMUN does have a financial aid program for the Annual Conference. You will receive the relevant documents on how you can apply for financial aid when your application has been accepted.
  • I need a visa to come to Switzerland. Can GIMUN provide me with supporting documents for my visa application?
To enter Switzerland, you need a valid Schengen visa as well as a travel insurance. While GIMUN cannot provide you with a visa, it is possible for us to transfer an invitation letter to the participant by email. Note that this is only possible when the applicant in question is already accepted as a participant of the Annual Conference and has been assigned a position. We also won't negotiate on the process of your VISA with any Embassies, nor are we able to provide a follow up invitation letter. Please request the VISA at least one month before the Annual Conference.
  • I am in highschool and would like to apply for the Annual Conference. What should I do?
Sadly, we cannot accept any participants to our Annual Conference that aren't currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate program. Therefore, highschool students cannot participate at the Annual Conference.
  • My MUN Team and I would like to come to the Annual Conference as a delegation. How should we apply?
GIMUN does accept applications of delegations. However, every single delegate has to sign up individually. Every applicant has to indicate the delegation that they are from as well as the name and the email address of the Head-Delegate. All information concerning GIMUN will then be sent to the Head Delegate. We reserve the right to reject individual applications, even when the other members of a delegation have been accepted to participate.
  • When is the Annual Conference?
The next GIMUN Annual Conference will be held online in March 2021. These dates will be announced soon on our social media and on our website once the dates are confirmed.
  • What are the participation fees for the annual conference?
The GIMUN annual conference 2021 will be held online, and the fees will be available soon. Due to current situation the fees will be reduced comparing to previous years. In the case of an annual face-to-face conference, the regular participation fee is CHF 210. For the 2020 Annual Conference, we also offered a reduced fee of CHF 190 for the first 50 applications we received. Our participation fee covers five lunches, all evenings, coffee breaks, conference materials and goodie bags. The participation fee must be paid in full before the conference.
