CHAIRS

The Committee Chairs moderate the debates within the committees and assure the high academic quality of the committee sessions. They write the study guide and are reviewing the position papers of the delegates.

 

Titilope

Adedokun

Futuristic Security Council

Titilope Adedokun is a 20-year-old law student at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. She has a keen interest in research, international law and international development. She believes that young people play a key role in international development and should therefore be involved in discussions to find solutions to world problems.

Her MUN journey began at the Lagos Model United Nations 2017 where she served as a delegate. Since then, she has participated in four conferences, including the National Model United Nations (New York) and the Lagos Model United Nations 2019, where she served as vice-chair. She is currently serving as the Under-Secretary-General, Substance for the Lagos Model United Nations 2020.

Titilope is excited to serve as chair for the Futuristic Security Council at GIMUN 2020, and is looking forward to observing the engaging and intellectually stimulating discussions among its delegates.

Ashley Stanley-Ryan

Futuristic Legal Committee

Ash is an LL.M. (International Law) candidate at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (International Relations) from Victoria University of Wellington. Before moving to Geneva, Ash worked as a private lawyer and a government adviser, including interning at the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. His research interests include the law of armed conflict, international human rights, disarmament, investment arbitration and the law of international organisations.

Ignace Van den Steene

Futuristic Legal Committee

As a passionate 21-year-old law student studying at the KU Leuven in Belgium, Ignace first came in contact with MUN-ing at the beginning of 2018 when he joined the organization KU Leuven Model United Nations (KULMUN). From the very first training, through MUN conferences in Bonn, Leuven, Madrid and Malta, up to his election to the Executive Board of the organization as a fundraising manager, KULMUN became his family and MUN-ing his passion. After three conferences as a delegate, including attending WORLDMUN 2019, Ignace decided to take on the role as chair in his last two MUN conferences. Ignace is honoured to be able to chair the Legal Committee at the 2020 edition of GIMUN. His favorite subject is International Law and he hopes to bring his expertise on this matter to the committee in February.

Durodoluwa Femi-Ajala

UN Environment Programme

Durodoluwa Femi-Ajala is a final year law student at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, who has a passion for the environment and sustainable development. This passion has driven Duro to volunteer for several organisations, leading her to subsequently become a member of the International Climate Change Development Initiative (ICCDI). She has also co-founded the Youth Sustainable Development Conference (YSDC), an initiative to provide solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Duro's MUN journey started as a delegate at the Lagos Model United Nations (LMUN) in Nigeria and later at the National Model United Nations (NMUN) in New York. This led her to serve as vice-chair for the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) in LMUN 2019 and be appointed as the USG-Finance for LMUN 2020. She is pleased to be serving as chair for UNEP, GIMUN 2020.

Moustapha

SOCHUM

Meet Moustapha! He is going to be your francophone SOCHUM co-chair for GIMUN 2020. He is from Egypt and Algeria and is currently studying Civil Engineering in Scotland. He’s passionate about various topics, such as transportation and geopolitics, and has been involved in Model UN since high school. He first participated in GIMUN in 2018 and has been hooked ever since! He hopes your experience will be as memorable as his was back then, especially for newcomers!

Richael Addo

Pan-African Congress of 1945

Richael Mettle Addo is a student at the Graduate Institute in Geneva. She is doing a Master’s degree in International Affairs. She speaks English, Mandarin and basic French. She is interested in local and international governance but is also passionate about issues related to women, children and youth. For her, MUNs are a great platform to build skills and to network. It is always a joy to participate in a conference and what better place than GIMUN in international Geneva. She is looking forward to the challenge and the experience. She loves to travel and explore, eat nice food and engage in good conversations. She has a calm, friendly and welcoming personality, and is always ready to listen, learn and share. She believes that the most important thing in life is to never give up.

Mia Clausin

League of Nations Health Organisation

Mia is an MSc Global Health student at the University of Geneva who has supported the WHO's youth strategy, highlighting important opportunities to effectively engage young people in transforming health and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With a BSc in Economics and International Development from the University of Bath, she is particularly passionate about bridging sectoral divides in order to achieve adequate healthcare for all.

Jonatan

Hermann

Futuristic Security Council

Jonatan is a 21-year-old final year political science student at the University of Vienna. He started taking part in Model United Nations five years ago while in high school, having previously held the roles of delegate, chair and Secretary-General. He is excited to be making his return at this year’s GIMUN as chair of the Security Council, his favourite committee. Although he had planned on retiring from Model UN by 2018, he has decided to tie his MUN career with the UK's Brexit extensions and is looking forward to taking part in conferences well into the coming decade.

Damilola Oguntade

Futuristic Legal Committee

Damilola Oguntade recently completed his Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, Nigeria. He is an emerging leader in international law and public policy, diplomacy and sustainable development. He has participated in several Model United Nations conferences and sustainability workshops where he has a good reputation in leading both as a delegate and a chair/panelist. He believes that youth impact and leadership are essential to the UN 2030 Agenda, especially from an innovative legal and policy perspective. He is ready to use his experience to engage and positively impact delegates in the Futuristic Legal Committee.

Aliaa Latch

UN Environment Programme

Aliaa is a 20-year-old French student of Syrian descent. She currently resides in Brussels where she is finishing her bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Having lived in Syria during the country’s most difficult years, Aliaa moved to Brussels at the age of 18 with a special interest in international security and conflict resolution. In 2018, she attended GIMUN for the first time as a delegate and has since participated once more as head of her university delegation. For GIMUN’s 21st year, Aliaa will be taking on a new role as chair of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). With such a position comes a lot of responsibility, and Aliaa will give her all in order to make sure that this year’s UNEP committee is enriched with diplomatic experience and most importantly, that it is a committee which is enjoyable. From previous MUN experiences, Aliaa has learned that a committee that cooperates is a committee that succeeds.

Zvezdana Bozovic

UN Environment Programme

Zvezdana is a second-year international relations student at the University of Belgrade. She participated in her first MUN conference in high school and has been captivated ever since. She hopes that the delegates will find GIMUN 2020 to be fun, thought-provoking, challenging and above all, welcoming to everyone regardless of their experience and academic background. This is only her second time as chair and she is very much looking forward to further developing her skills and applying the knowledge she gained through her studies in a more direct and practical manner. Besides the clear interest in politics and languages, she is passionate about film and modern art, and divides her time between several student associations for which she is an active member.

Selin Gungor

SOCHUM

Selin is 20 years old and is currently doing her Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, focusing on Russian and Security Studies, at Leiden University. She has been doing MUN since she was a young 8th grader in her middle school. 8 years later, she is still here. In GIMUN 2020, she will be chairing the Social and Humanitarian Committee alongside Moustapha Helmy. In this edition of GIMUN, her hope for SOCHUM is to have productive debates among different topics concerning contemporary social and humanitarian problems. In the past, GIMUN has been one of the best MUN experiences she has ever had, and she has been counting the days and weeks to be able participate again. Not only did she get to debate within the United Nations, she made incredible friends. She is really looking forward to another incredible experience with both familiar and new faces.

Ghita El Hachmi

Pan-African Congress of 1945

Ghita is 20 years old and is currently in her 3rd year of a Bachelor’s degree in Politics, Law and Economics at IE University in Madrid. Originally from Morocco, she speaks four languages and loves using more than one language per sentence. She is passionate about politics and football, and is hoping to combine them in her future life. Finally, Ghita decided to study Politics after participating in her first Model United Nations!

Penelope Magnani

League of Nations Health Organisation

Penelope was born in Rome, Italy, but at the age of 10 she moved with her family to live in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. After obtaining her high school diploma, she moved to Colchester to pursue a BA in International Relations at the University of Essex, England. She is currently in her final year.

Aside from studying, Model UN is her number one priority. She also enjoys sport, journalism and hanging out with her friends.
