Aliaa is a 20-year-old French student of Syrian descent. She currently resides in Brussels where she is finishing her bachelor’s degree in political science. Having lived in Syria during the country’s toughest years, Aliaa moved to Brussels at the age of 18 with a special interest in international security and conflict resolution. She attended GIMUN for the first time as a delegate in 2018 and has since attended once more as head of her university delegation. For the 21st edition of GIMUN, Aliaa will be taking on a new role: Chair of the United Nations Environment Programme. With such a position comes a lot of responsibility and Aliaa will surely give her all in order to make this year’s UNEP a committee enriched with diplomatic experience and most importantly, a committee that is enjoyable. From previous MUN experiences, Aliaa learned that a committee that cooperates, is a committee that achieves.

Zvezdana is a second-year student in International Relations at the University of Belgrade. She did her first MUN conference in high school and has been hooked ever since. She hopes that delegates will find GIMUN 2020 to be fun, thought-provoking, challenging and above all, welcoming to everyone regardless of their experience and academic background. This is only her second time chairing and she is very much looking forward to further developing her skills and applying the knowledge she obtained through her studies in a more direct and practical manner. Besides the obvious interest in politics and languages, she is passionate about film and modern art, and divides her time between several student associations for which she is an active member.

She has been doing MUN since she was a young 8th grader in her middle school. 8 years later, she is still here. In GIMUN 2020, she will be chairing the Social and Humanitarian Committee alongside Moustapha Helmy. In this edition of GIMUN, her hope for SOCHUM is to have productive debates among different topics concerning the social and humanitarian problems in the current day. In the past, GIMUN has been one of the best MUN experiences she ever had and she has been counting the days and weeks to be able to come back. Not only did she get to debate within the United Nations, she made incredible friends. She is really looking forward to another incredible experience with familiar and new faces.
